You would think that we could have at least gotten a little bit of snow - just a little, mind you - cause there's nothing worse than howling wind and rain at 32 1/2 degrees.

And that's precisely what we got.

Ah well - at least that means that we can get out of the house today seeing as how it's a holiday and all. Jim's duty officer today at JYF so I suppose we'll be moseying up to Williamsburg and Yorktown for awhile.

We were actually out of town for a day or so for Valentine's day - and had a lovely time, too. We drove over to Norfolk to the Norva to see The Hackensaw Boys and the Yonder Mountain String Band. Brilliant concert as always for Yonder Mountain (a cuter bunch of Colorado boys you just can't find)and the added surprise of discovering an incredible band practically in our own back yard - since the Hackensaw Boys are from Charlottesville! They're an 8-piece jug band without the jug and they just blew us away - of course we made many fine purchases of Hackensaw Boys products!

Yonder Mountain was great too - now those of you who know me well are likely surprised that I'm enjoying a jam band (since I think most jam bands have arisen from the ninth circle of hell to torture me) - but there's always got to be an exception to the rule and these guys might just be it.

Now keep in mind that the audience was full of Deadheads and Phish people spinning around to some inner muse - but there were also some bona fide buckdancers there which kinda made up for all the other. They played two incredible sets - and the highlight was perhaps their scintillating cover of "And Your Bird Can Sing" by the Beatles. Lovely harmonies and great instrumentation. Yum!

We got a hotel room at the Marriott Waterside - and can I just say I don't plan on using Expedia.com again any time soon? They neglected to book the room with the hotel (hmmm....isn't that what their company does?) and were it not for the persistence of some wonderful employees there, we would have been driving back hom ein the wee hours of the morning.

Granted - that's not such a bad thing, but when you consider that I had been awake for about 22 hours by then...(Wanna know what time Langley AFB deployed Frday morning? I can tell you - 3:16 a.m. and they deployed right over our house. Ah well - what can you say? Sound of freedom and all....)

S0 we got a room, slept forever, then high-talied it over to Jack Quinn's for some black pudding and Tennant's (mmmm breakfast of champions!)

I guess I should go be productive right now. Happy belated Valentine's Day to all!
